Visas for working in the UK

UK family visa applications

The UK offers a range of partner and spouse visas and family visas for those wishing to join relatives in the UK. Your partner or spouse will need to be a British or Irish citizen or have settled status in the UK.

If you have been in the UK for a lengthy period of time, you may be eligible to apply for indefinite leave to remain. This will give you the right to stay in the country to live and work. You will also be able to leave and come back without needing a visa, provided that you are not absent for more than two years. Your family can also apply to join you.

Once you have been settled in the UK for a year or more, either with indefinite leave to remain or EU settled status, you may be able to apply for British citizenship. This means that you would become a British citizen.
